This list is comprised of songs about all types of cars, including hot rods, and includes vocal and instrumental recordings about automobile-related driving. Songs about trucks, motorcycles or buses do not qualify for the list. Rankings are based on the popularity of each song during the period of 1950 through 1969, but songs about cars, or with car names in the titles, are given more emphasis than songs where cars figure less prominently in the lyrics.

Chuck Berry is the king of the car songs with six on the list, plus three others as songwriter. Jan Berry claims the runner-up spot, appearing on five songs (four with Dean Torrence and one with Arnie Ginsburg).
