Rankings are based on the popularity of each recording during the period of 1950 through 1969.

The Supremes outdistance all others with 18 songs on the list (including five as Diana Ross and the Supremes). The Chordettes have eight, Martha and the Vandellas also have eight (including one as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) and The Shirelles have seven. The Marvelettes and The Crystals each show up six times, while The Orlons and The Shangri-Las have four songs apiece. The Chiffons and The Dixie Cups are each represented with three. 22 songs on the list are from 1963 (double the next closest year, 1964), which represents the peak of the girl group era.
